Tusker Settle For A Draw In CAF Champions League Opener

Tusker Fc

The Brewers featuring debutants Brian Bwire and Daniel Sakari had a decent game at the CAF Champions League preliminary round when they settled for a 1-1 draw with Djibouti’s Arta Solar 7. Right in the opening minutes, Tusker got hold of possession making sure their presence was fully felt and soon in the 14th minute, it all paid off when Ibrahim Joshua scored.

It wasn't too late when Arta Solar 7 released an early equaliser which would surely have them back in the game. Right in the 16th minute, Alain Traore scored a beautiful goal that leveled the scores at 1 all. The club is a hugely unknown side, but Arta have several familiar faces in the squad, which is captained by former Cameroon and Arsenal star Alex Song. The team also includes retired Cameroonian international Idris Kameni.

The last time they played at this stage, in 2017, they bowed out in the preliminary round after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Mauritian side AS Port Louis.

Tusker’s biggest challenge however was the lack of punch upfront with only one striker who was available for selection. The absence of teen striker Henry Meja, who left the team to join Swedish side AIK at the end of the season was heavily felt. Meja scored 12 goals for Tusker last season.
