The in-demand Brighton midfielder, 25, spent the day in custody after being arrested in the city. Shocked revellers last night told how they saw Premier League ace Bissouma being marched out of a packed nightclub in handcuffs by police officers.
The Brighton midfielder, who has been linked with a number of big clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal, had been partying with a pal in the early hours of yesterday when cops were called. Bissouma, a likely big-money target in the upcoming January transfer window, was then detained by officers at popular city venue The Arch before being led away in handcuffs at around 2am.
Bissouma, wearing a check shirt-style hoodie, was filmed by onlookers on the Brighton seafront being led away by two police officers. His friend, who is in his 40s, was also arrested. Sussex Police confirmed last night that a man in his 20s and another in his 40s had been arrested “in the early hours”. The nightclub was hosting a weekly promo night popular among students. Bissouma, on £45,000 a week, has been one of Brighton’s top performers this year, helping them soar to sixth in the Premier League table, just two points off the leaders. Last month he declared his aim to be the best in the top flight.
The player, born in the Ivory Coast but now a Mali international, signed for the Seagulls from French side Lille in 2018 for a reported £1million. He scored his first goal for the club against Bournemouth in the FA Cup third round in 2019.
Sexual assault, or perhaps the reporting of sexual assault, is sickeningly seemingly on the up this year, with three players now accused since the beginning of the season. Benjamin Mendy, of course, is the most high-profile of these, due to stand trial in January for four counts of rape and one count of sexual assualt. Meanwhile, Everton were forced to suspend one of their squad, a man in his 30s, due to child sex offences, with a statement on their club website saying: "Everton can confirm it has suspended a First-Team player pending a police investigation. The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time." Sadly, this was not the last.
Gylfi Sigurdsson, a player for Premier League football team Everton and Iceland’s national team, was arrested on suspicion of committing child sex offenses. For legal reasons, British media reported the incident without giving his name, but Icelandic media, including mbl.is, named the player arrested as Sigurdson, who is 31. “Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on Friday 16 July 2021 on suspicion of child sex offences,” said a statement from police in the northern city of Manchester.
