Hillary Simiyu and Brian Brigen were on target as Ulinzi Stars beat struggling AFC Leopards 2-0 on Friday afternoon to move top of the FKF Premier League table.
The Thika Sub County encounter saw both sides miss early opportunities.
Leopards have now lost three matches on the trot, and pressure is literally mounting on coach Patrick Aussems who once again lamented the lack of enough firepower as the main undoing for the 13-time Kenyan champions.
“Individuals errors cost us and we also do not have someone to score. The youngsters are good but we cannot continue to depend on them," the Belgian said after the game.
For young Ulinzi Stars coach Stephen Ocholla, it was a game they planned and executed well, and the scoreline was just perfect.
"I wanted a 2-0 scoreline and we thank God we got it," Ocholla said.
"We have been working on finding such a result and that alone shows that we are getting better as the league progresses, being on top of the league table is definitely sweet," he added.
Ulinzi drew the first blood in the 42nd minute of the game when Birgen had his long range effort ricochet the upright before finding its way into the back of the net.
Hillary Simiyu opened his account for the 2010 champions in the 57th minute as the inexperienced Leopards tried hard to get back in the game.
Ulinzi's win ensured they leapfrog Nairobi City Stars who can reclaim top spot if they beat Posta Rangers on Saturday.
The loss means Leopards have not registered a victory in their last three league fixtures. They lost 1-0 to rivals Gor Mahia before going down 2-1 to Bandari FC last weekend.
