
Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat on Monday 1, named a 27-man squad for the upcoming 2022 Fifa World Cup Qualifiers against Uganda and Rwanda.
In his 27-man squad, the Turkish coach has also given debut call-up 18-year-old Wilkins Ochieng to Kenya as they prepare to face Uganda and Rwanda in group E world cup qualification.
Wilkins Ochieng, who is based in Belgium expressed his excitement about his first call up to the national team through a video.
“I am so happy to receive the call up for the first call to the national team of Kenya. I hope to see you soon in Nairobi,” Wilkins stated.
Wilkins plays for Club Brugge under 19 and has currently featured in three games in the under 19 UEFA Youth League in the 2021/2022 season.
Other players to receive their first international call up are Gor Mahia's Gad Mathews and Alwyn Tera of FC Ararat in Armenia.
Ismael Dunga, who plays in Japan's J1 League with Sagan Tosu has also made a return to the international side.
Eric Johana together with the likes of Kaizer Chiefs' Anthony Akumu, KCB's Michael Mutinda and Philemon Otieno of Gor Mahia have also made returns to the national team squad.
After two consecutive losses against Mali, Kenya's dream of appearing in the 2022 World Cup finals was shattered.
The remaining matches between Kenya and their neighbours in November are not key matches as they are just to fulfil the group's remaining fixtures.
Harambee Stars are expected to start the pre-qualifiers preparations on November 6 in Nairobi before facing the Uganda Cranes on November 11 at St Mary’s Stadium Kitende, Uganda.
The match against Rwanda has been scheduled to take place on November 15.
