Despite his side Al Duhail being eliminated in the group stages, Michael Olunga finished top scorer of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League with nine goals, as the tournament finished on Tuesday night.

Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal beating South Korean outfit Pohang Steelers 2-0 to clinch the title, Nasser Aldawasari scoring after 16 seconds for the fastest goal in AFC Champions League history before Malian forward Moussa Marega doubling the tally in the second half.

Olunga’s Duhail finished second in Group C, narrowly missing out on a ticket to the next round after being lowly ranked among the number two finishers. The forward scored in each of the six games that Duhail played.

The Kenyan striker scired in the 2-0 openingd ay victory against Al Shorta, netted the solo goal against Saudi giants Al Ahli who equalized in the 93rd minute and hit a hattrick against Esteghlal including an 85th minute winner in a 4-3 victory.

Olunga once again netted twice in the return 2-2 draw with Iranian side Esteghlal, netted the equalizer in the 2-1 loss to Al Shorta as well as the solo strike in the 1-1 draw with Ahli.

The Group Phase of the competition was played in a single venue due to COVID-19 challenges.
