Tempers and utter chaos flared today at a presser, forcing by Chris Kinyua of Big Time Promotions to step in and hold off the bare knuckle exchange between national light-welterweight champ George Onyango (6-2-1, 5 KOs) and challenger Fred Nyakesha (7-3-1, 1 KO).
Nyakesha is actually a product of Bangladesh where he trains under coach Alfred Analo aka Priest. Onyango on the other hand is a product of Umoja Boxing Club.
Dubbed the Grudge Match, the two talented fighters will meet in a return bout on December 4th at Charter Hall. The same venue also now boasts of having a successful event (Jamal Cup) that also saw new fighters emerge and establish their dominance.
Nyakesha wants to prove that he was robbed of victory in 2018 when the two clashed outside the KICC in one of the undercards of Fatuma Zarika WBC title defence against Zambia's Catherine Phiri.
"A fair result should have been a draw, now I will whip him properly for everybody to see I'm the best," said a fuming Nyakesha who made his pro debut in 2011 while the more youthful Onyango debuted in 2017. "I'll talk with my fists and show him I'm the legitimate national champ," said Onyango who last fought on October 20th 2021, scoring an easy TKO win over Richard Okoth.
