
The Kenya Basketball Federation has appointed George Mayienga asĀ the national women's basketball team the Kenya Lionesses head coach.
Uganda-based Mayienga will take charge of the team ahead of the FIBA Africa Zone Five qualifiers where the team is expected to participate later this year.
The other objective set by the federation to the newly appointed coach would be to sail the team back into the women AfroBasket which is meant to take place later this year with the venue yet to be unveiled .The Lionesses performed poorly in the 2019 edition in Senegal.
The coach also heads Ugandan based club JKL Dolphins who are in the Ugandan league.With high hopes and expectations of the new head coach to propel the women's basketball team a notch higher Mayienga will be working hand in hand with a big team as his technical support.
The coaching staff will consist of KPA Coach Mike Opel ,Eunice Ouma of Eagle Wings and Strathmore Swords coach Tony Ochieng.
Moran's head coach Liz Mills will be the technical assistant while Equity Bank coach Sylvia Kamau will serve as the team manager.
The lionesses are expected to resume training programme at the Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium on May 1st where the new coach will have his first session with the team ahead of the tasks.
