Godson Chegema of Kivumbini Ward in Nakuru Town East sub-County on November 25, will fly to England for a 4-month trial with Manchester United FC as a goalkeeper.

The 19-year-old secured an invitation to take part in the trials with the English premier league giant in 2020 but could not travel due to financial challenges and the pandemic.

The governor of Nakuru County, Lee Kinyanjui, quickly intervened and paid for his ticket, accommodation and other expenses throughout the trial period.

While presenting him with an air ticket and other essentials, County Minister for Sports, Ms Sylvia Onyango emphasized the County’s commitment to nurturing sports among the youth.

Nakuru County Government has been embarking on capital infrastructure projects such as the construction of stadiums, buying sports equipment and tournaments.

Godson Chagema is sure he will impress the scouts and confess that for him it's a dream come true.

Chegema, sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations in 2019 at Kivumbini Secondary School.

For Chagema all he wants is to succeed and be a role model to the young youths who have lost hope and engaged in drugs and crime to earn a living, adding he will take his training seriously.

“I look forward to succeeding. All I need is to be a role model to my fellow youths so that they may know talent and skills can change one’s life,” Chegems stated earlier.

Chegema thanked Governor Kinyanjui for enabling him to achieve his dream and promised to work hard at the trials and inspire other youth in Kivumbini and other low-income areas.
