Kenya Prisons rugby team are the newest hard hitters in the block. Playing out of the KRU Nationwide Central League during the 2021/22 season.

The Green Berets will start their campaign with a clash away to Kiambu in one of five matches lined up on match day one on Saturday 4th December 2021.

The other fixtures in Central Kenya pit JKUAT Cougars against Meru University with Embu hosting Laikipia as Meru and Nanyuki clash. Zetech University shall play Chuka in the day’s fifth fixture.

Initially, Kenya Prisons first made a mark in the rugby scene after they won the Inaugural Kilifi Rugby 7s Festival held at the Kilifi Plantations in early November. 

The tournament was played in a round-robin format. Kenya Prisons and Malindi RFC picked five wins out of the six matches played earning 15 points each.

Prisons were crowned champions after beating Malindi on point difference. They had a point differential of 114 having scored 150 points and conceded 36.

Malindi had a point differential of 99 points having scored 140 points and conceded 41. Pwani 1 settled for the third spot, with 12 points after four wins in the competition. Pwani 2 and Mombasa Sports Club had seven points each.

Spartans and Sultan Rugby had three points each. Hidden Talent won the women’s category and Likoni won the under 14 category.

According to the organizer Leon Lubang’a, the senior Men’s and Women’s got a prize money of Kshs. 30,000. The target of having the tournament was to promote Rugby in the region.
