One hundred shooters will battle it out at the International Pistol Shooting Confederation (IPSC) women’s championship starting Friday December 10th in Shaba, Isiolo County.
IPSC chairman Memba Muriuki Tuesday disclosed that the two-day competition will feature three categories; Pistol, Pistol Calibre Combine and Rifle.
The event comes after a successful first ever competition for women held in July this year at the Jockey Club of Kenya where Irene Ndunda from Kenya Defence Forces destroyed a fine field to lift the inaugural title.
The first Kenyan woman Major General, Fatuma Ahmed, graced the championship.
Ndunda amassed 469.3598 points from six stages, beating Belinda Amuom from General Service Unit (GSU) to second place in the event that was held under the auspices of Kenya Shooting Sport Federation (KSSF).
The shooter with the highest points in least time (best hit factor) will carry the day in the competition that is set to draw contestants from National Police Service, Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Regiment Rifle Club.
Muriuki said the event is being used to prepare Team Kenya for the IPSC Women’s Africa Championships that will be staged in July next year in Kenya.
Besides Ndunda, Belinda Amuom from the General Service Unit (GSU), compatriot Irene Wanjiku and Agatha Muchiri are some of women’s finest shooters expected at the two-day event.
Also in contention are Agnes Muchiri of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Nune Bonaya, Brenda Ajiambo and Joyce Chebii from KDF, as well as Sarah Masaine and Caroline Kiama of Chalbi Desert.
