The Premier League on Thursday, December 16, postponed six more matches due to the wave of coronavirus infections pandemic hitting Britain.

The Premier League has however noted that it intended to continue its current fixture schedule where safely possible as calls for a break intensify.

Liverpool vs Newcastle

Liverpool became the first side in history to win 2,000 English top-flight games after defeating Newcastle 3-1 at Anfield on Thursday.

With victory over Eddie Howe's side, Liverpool also extended their unbeaten top-flight run over Newcastle at Anfield to 26 games (D5 L21) and moved back within a point of leaders Manchester City, while going three clear of third-placed Chelsea.

Jonjo Shelvey opened the scoring for Newcastle before Liverpool replied with three goals from Jota, Salah and Alexander-Arnold.

Salah has either scored or assisted a goal in 15 consecutive Premier League appearances, equalling the longest such run in the competition set by Vardy between August and December 2015.

Klopp's side next travel to Tottenham on Sunday as they aim to keep the pace with City and Chelsea at the top of the league.

Chelsea vs Everton

Chelsea missed the chance to pressurise Premier League leaders Manchester City as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton.

Chelsea took the lead after Mason Mount slotted the ball past Pickford however Everton's defender Branthwaite equalised.

Chelsea will look to respond and get back to winning ways on Sunday, when they travel to Molineux to face Wolves. Following the postponement of Everton's clash with Leicester City, the Toffees are back in action away to Burnley on Boxing Day.

Leicester vs Tottenham

Leicester's Premier League match against Tottenham on Thursday has been postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the Foxes' squad.

The postponement comes after Leicester made a second request to the Premier League for the match to be cancelled, having confirmed more positive coronavirus cases on Thursday morning.

The match becomes Tottenham's third consecutive postponement, after a coronavirus outbreak of their own saw their Europa Conference League match against Rennes and last weekend's Premier League game against Brighton called off.
