Manchester City seems to have secured a spot in the next round of Champions League after a resounding win against Sporting Lisbon on February 15.

Sporting were hoping to replicate their 2012 win against City which was the last time they were successful against an English club.

The Cityzens showed their prowess by putting away the tie in the first 45 minutes with four goals.

Pep Guardiola's side set a Champions League knockout record for biggest first-half lead in an away match.

The goals were shared in the team with Bernardo Silva finding the net twice while Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden also hit the target.

City’s defence was also key as they ensured Sporting were goalless to maintain the four-goal advantage entering half-time.

The match ended with a 5-0 comfortable win by City as Raheem Sterling sealed the win with a superb goal in the second half.

The Guardiola side have progressed from the group stage for a ninth time in a row.

City will be aiming to outperform their last campaign where they reached the finals but suffered a 1-0 loss to Chelsea as they wait for their first Champions League Cup.

Also in their last campaign City had another record after a 2-0 victory against Paris Saint- Germain, having the longest winning run by an English side in the competition.
