
The Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has offered a Sh100 million sponsorship towards the 2021 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally that is meant to take place in Naivasha on June 24th to 27th.
The Kenyan bank is an official partner of the WRC rally competition which is set to make a comeback to the country and the entire continent for the first time in 19 years.
The sponsorship deal was presented by the bank CEO to the Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb.Amina Mohamed at the Kasarani Stadium yesterday. The sports CS expressed her gratitude to the bank in their continued support for sports activities in the country.
“The sponsorship is a significant milestone for the Safari Rally as we have an indigenous institution supporting one of the most iconic events in Africa. KCB has been proactive in supporting sporting activities and nurturing of talents around the country across all the games,” CS Amb. Amina Mohamed said.
Also present at Kasarani stadium yesterday was the Kenya Motorsport Federation chairman Phineas Kimathi,who also thanked KCB for coming through and helping in organising of the main event KMSF chairman and Safari Rally Chief Executive also said that the WRC will cover 797 kilometres in Nairobi, Naivasha and Kiambu counties.
The WRC main event is one of the oldest and leading global motorsport competitions and is governed by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, (FIA). The global event returned to Kenya in 2020, after a nearly two-decade deadlock but was postponed due to the global outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic and thus seeing it be conducted this year.
