Ex marathon world record holder Tegla Loroupe believes that the athletes who use the new and modern running shoe technology are "cheating" and it is "almost like doping"

The invention of high-tech shoes in the athletic world has coincided with a number of world records that have been set in high intensity and endurance races in recent years.

The former kenyan marathoner has criticized the new running shoes and has argued that the shoes give the runners an unfair form of advantage and thus should be banned .

The three and a half years marathon record holder explained in a recent interview that the shoes aid the athletes a lot as they do not use their raw energy while in action.

"You can have a faster shoe but what about those who cannot afford, it's almost like doping, for me there is no difference between doping and having a faster shoe."said the Ex marathoner.

The modern running shoes  has raised questions among various stakeholders such as the World Athletics board who tightened its rules around high-tech shoes, including banning the Nike 'Alpha Fly' prototype shoes worn by Eliud Kipchoge when he became the first athlete to run a marathon in under two hours in October 2019.

The 47 year old commonly known as the `barefoot runner' says that high - tech shoes should be banned so that people can trust themselves, they can train and see what they be able to do from their raw energy.
