Turkish ckub Fenerbahçe have suspended playmaker, Mesut Ozil and Turkish international Ozan Tufan.

The two were removed from the registered squad, according to a statement released by the club on March 24.

The Turkish Giants are yet to clarify the reason why the two players were suspended.

“Our football A team players Mesut Özil and Ozan Tufan have been dismissed as per the decision made. This is a public announcement,” the club statement read.

Following the suspension, the two will not train with the rest of their teammates.

Reports alleged that Ozil had a verbal altercation with the club's interim manager, Ismail Kartal.

Ozil joined Fenerbahçe in January 2021, after his Arsenal contract was terminated six months before its due date.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been struggling to hit the ground in recent weeks to the extent of being substituted at half time in his last match on March 20.

In the 2021/2022 season the 33-year-old midfielder has scored only nine goals for Fanerbahce.

In November 2021 Fenerbahce president Ali Koc publicly criticised Ozil and urged him to turn things around.

“Ozil wants to play more. From now on, he needs to focus on his game and keep his commercial interests out of it. He needs to think about contributing to Fenerbahce,” Ali Koc noted.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old midfielder Tufan, who has also been suspended, spent last season on-loan at Watford and has made 65 appearances for Turkey.
