The company is set to change the name following issues surrounding the football game “FIFA’.
Developers of the game stated that they are unhappy with the idea of paying football organisation FIFA for the name rights and therefore want to move on permanently from the partnership.
General Manager for EA Sports, Cam Weber, on Thursday confirmed that the partnership may end.
“As we look ahead, we’re also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA Sports football games. This means we’re reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licences across the football world,” he said in a statement.

The latest reports suggest that the game will be called EA Sports FC in the future.
According to gaming journalist Jeff Grubb, the developers already trademarked the name late last year.
“The FIFA games are some of the most popular in the world, but EA doesn’t think maintaining the name is worth the $1 billion that FIFA wants for it,” wrote Grubb.
“FIFA sees the success of EA’s game and wants a bigger piece of that massive pie. But EA, naturally, doesn’t want to dig into its profit margin any more than it already has,” added Grubb.
The news elicited mixed reactions online as fans raised doubts about the future of the game.
Last week, FIFA updated its trademark in Europe, specifically mentioning video game products in its filing.
