Kenya's hopes to have the suspension by the world football governing body FIFA lifted have been dashed.

This is after FIFA approved the suspension on Thursday, March 31 with198 members voting in support of the ban while only two countries voted against the decision.

The move by FIFA Congress allows the council to lift the suspension once Kenya meets the conditions set by body.

Kenya was suspended following the interference by the government in the running of football affairs after the disbandment of the FKF national executive committee.

Kenya's Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed, in November 2021, disbanded the Football Kenya Federation and installed a Caretaker Committee to run football activities in the country

FIFA had ordered the Kenyan government to rescind the decision to disband FKF or the country would be banned for good.

The only way the ban would be lifted was if the FKF and the management went back to office and took full control of football affairs in the country.

Retired Justice Aaron Ringera and renowned journalist Linda Ogutu were appointed by the Cabinet Secretary  to head the caretaker committee and  the secretariat respectively.

CS Amina in her recent addresses has reassured Kenyans that the government has been in constant communication with FIFA even though the country still remains banned.

The suspension means the country will be barred from fielding any team in any FIFA affiliated competition for both men and women football teams and clubs.

Similarly, local referees will also suffer as they will be barred from international assignments. Kenyan-based footballers will not be allowed to complete a professional transfer during the ban.
