Jay Okocha Among 8 Appointed in 2022 World Cup Draw

Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha is among eight former footballers who will conduct the draw of the 2022 world cup group stage. 

Despite Nigeria failing to qualify for this year's edition their former captain will participate in the draw to select teams for group stages. 

Jay Jay Okocha will also be joined by a former Super Eagles coach to the France ‘98 World Cup, Bora Milutinović. 

Okocha was in the team that helped Nigeria qualify for their first World Cup in 1994 before winning the Olympics title in 1996.

Others who will conduct the draw include ex-Brazil international Cafu, Lothar Mathews, Tim Cahil, Adel Ahmed MalAllah, Ali Daei and Rabah Madjer.

The final draw to reveal the groups for the 2022 edition of football’s global showpiece will be taking place on Friday, April 1. 

The Brazilian legend will be taking part in a final draw for the third time. Cafu is a two-time winner of the World Cup. 

Lothar Matthaus is an ex-German international having captained West Germany to victory in 1990, while Tim Cahil scored Australia's first-ever FIFA World Cup finals goal. 

Also on the list is Bora Milutinovićwho is the only coach to have managed five consecutive World Cup events with different teams having coached  Mexico, Costa Rica, US, Nigeria and China PR.  

Supporting the eight in the draw will be the two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Carli Lloyd, former England player Jermaine Jenas, and British-Jamaican sports presenter Samantha Johnson.
