Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah has left fans guessing about his international future, after he hinted that he could retire from international football.

This came after Egypt failed to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup during the Senegal second leg play-off where Salah missed a penalty in the final shootout.

After the match, local media reported that Salah gave a rousing speech in the dressing room, in which he alluded to not being part of the team in future.

“I spoke with the players in the dressing room before the second leg and told them that I am proud to play with them and they are one of the finest groups I have played with,” said Salah.

He added that having spent time with the previous generations of Egyptian players ands that he was very happy with the current crop.

“Whether or not I am available in the future, I am proud to have been your team-mate. It was an honour for me,” added Salah.

Egypt has for the second time lost to Senegal in a penalty shootout, similar to that of the Africa Cup of Nations in February.

“I won twice and he lost twice, I was luckier to come out on top,” said Mane on his victories against his Liverpool teammate Salah.

Salah missed the penalty as Senegal won 3 - 1 after a tie that ended 1-1 following extra time.

However, several lasers appeared to be shone in Salah’s face from the crowd before he took his spot kick.

Salah played during the 2018 World Cup, but will miss out on this year’s Qatar’s World Cup.

By the time of the 2026 World Cup, Salah will be 34-years old.
