The Kenya Women’s national volleyball team Malkia Strikers 45-day high performance training in Sao Paulo Brazil was on Saturday, May 1, called off by the government.

The Ministry of Health turned down the request on Saturday by the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) to have the Malkia Strikers train in Brazil  which was set to be part of the team’s preparation for the forthcoming Summer Olympics games in July.

Brazil is currently experiencing widespread community transmission of Covid-19 virus with a high rising rate in cases and deaths over the past few weeks.

A review of the current situation in Brazil by the Kenyan government found that the current surge may persist for several weeks.

The situation in the South American country has driven harsh action by the Kenyan government to protect its citizens from the virus that has served a severe global impact.

With the cancellation of the high performance training camp in Brazil the Malkia Strikers might be forced to enhance their preparations for the main event in Tokyo locally so as to protect them from contacting the deadly virus.

The resumption of sporting activities within the country will be a big boost to the Kenya Volleyball Federation as they will gain a chance to enhance their squad depth from the local talents in the league.
