Ferdinand Omurwa Omanyala on Wednesday, April 6, won a 100m race in South Africa.

The fastest man on the continent was taking part in his first outdoor race this season at the third leg of the ASA Athletics Grand Prix Series held at NWU McArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

The 26-year-old sprinter claimed gold after clocking a time of 10.11 seconds with his personal best still 9.77 seconds.

The top three was closed by two South Africans Munyai and Emile Erasmus who finished second and third with a time of 10.29 and 10.42 seconds respectively.

Omanyala began his indoor season with the 60m race at the Meeting Hauts-de- France Pas-de-Calais in Liévin, France.

Through his time of 6.57 in France, Omanyala set a new national record in the 60m men's race.

Omanyala has been taking part in the 60 metres indoor races as part of his preparation for the 100m races.

In his last indoor race in Belgrade, Serbia the Kenyan sprinter failed to advance past the men's 60m semi final.

Omanyala blamed officials' decision to restart the race, saying it somehow affected his concentration and performance.

“The issues with the start affected me but it’s all good,” he noted.
