The FKF Premier League match between Tusker and Gor Mahia ended in a barren draw after fans protested a decision by the referee to award Tusker a goal.

Tusker’s Jacksom Macharia had scored a goal in the last minutes triggering protests from Gor fans forcing the referee to withdraw the goal.

After the score by Macharia, the referee pointed to the centre to symbolise that the goal fell within the set FIFA parameters.

This angered the Gor Mahia fans who started hurling water bottles and other harmful items to the referee and the Tusker's technical bench, forcing players to take cover at the centre of the Thika Stadium - where the match was staged.

Tuskers Head Coach, Robert Matano, hit out at the referee arguing that he should stand by his decision no matter the situation.

“Those are official referees, this is nonsense, you cannot be a FIFA referee and make such a decision. If it’s a goal then it remains a goal no matter how bad the situation is.

“If they kill you let them kill you but you stand with your decision. The referee is protected under the law of the game, no single person can harm the referee,” Matano stated.

The Tusker head coach noted that the referee was influenced to change the decision after consulting with Gor Mahia officials.

“He cannot call himself a FIFA referee, in this football world, I have never seen this kind of thing,” Matano added.

On whether Tusker would appeal the decision, Matano noted that he would not appeal such a thing and the officials will have to decide themselves.
