
Kenya clinched a total of three medals at the World Athletics Relays Championships which ended on Sunday night, May 2, in Poland.This was an improvement from the last edition in 2019 where they only bagged one medal.
The 4 by 200m team finished the second day of the event in style, bagging a silver medal after powering to a national record of 1.24.26 minutes to cross the line as runners up behind German gold medalists.
The 4 by 200m competition saw dropped batons by both Denmark and hosts Poland, but there was a dominant run by Germany's Owen Ansah who ran a 19.96 last leg to steer his team to victory in 1:22.43.
The Kenyan team was led by Hesborn Ochieng to secure a best ever finish at the event. The Kenyan side also included national 100m sprinter and record holder Mark Otieno who was handed the baton by Mike Mokamba and Elijah Onkware.
On day one, Kenya had secured two medals,in the the 2 by 2 by 400m Mixed Relay team that consisted of Ferguson Rotich and Naomi Korir who won a silver medal after coming second place.
The Mixed Relay Kenyan team that consisted of Priscilla Tabunda, Michael Nzuku, Nusra Rukia and Wiseman Were had earlier won a bronze medal after coming third place in a race that was won by Germany as the hosts Poland came out in second place.
Day 2 of the event marked the final day of the world relay competitions in Silesia ,Poland. Kenya was still in a good space after recording an improvement in their performance as compared to the previous relay competition in 2019.
