
The village of Iten in Elgeyo-Marakwet county is in mourning following a suspected murder of an athlete identified as Damaris Muthee Mutua.
The body of the deceased was found inside a house belonging to her boyfriend at Lillies Estate in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Her boyfriend who is said to be an Ethiopian national is suspected to be behind the murder.

According to reports, Muthee was killed two days ago by her boyfriend who then fled to an unknown destination before alerting her friends to inform them of the incident.
By the time of publishing, her body was still inside the apartment as police launched investigations into the matter.
The athlete had garnered some accolades including the Marrakesh Marathon in October 2018 and the 10Km Casablanca Memorial in 2018.
She also participated in the Maputo half marathon in 2018 as well as Agadir Marathon in Morocco in 2017 where she emerged as the first runner-up.
The athlete, who reportedly died aged 28 years, held Bahrainian citizenship. She ran for Kenya in 2015.
The incident comes just months after the murder of Agnes Tirop, Kenya's 5,000m women's representative to Tokyo Olympics, caused outrage across the country, more so in the athletics community.
Tirop was found dead at her home in Elgeyo Marakwet County in October 2021- she had stab wounds on the neck.
Tirop's husband was arrested in connection with the matter with preliminary investigations showing that could have been involved in her death.
At the age of 19 years, Tirop become the youngest winner of the World Cross since Zola Budd in 1985 and the second youngest in World Cross Country Athletics history.
