Salah Named FWA Footballer of the Year

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers' Association Men's Footballer of the Year for 2021/22. 

Salah emerged top with 48 percent of the vote to win the award for the second time, followed by Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and West Ham's Declan Rice who finished second and third respectively.

The Egyptian has helped his side apply pressure to the League leaders Manchester City by contributing 22 goals and 13 assists in the 31 games played.

Jurgen Klopp's side are second in the table, just a point behind defending champions Man City with just five games left. 

In all competitions the 29-year-old forward has been involved in 30 goals and 14 assists in only 44 matches. 

The Egyptian striker, who also features for the Pharaohs is succeeding Manchester City defender Ruben Dias who was the winner of the award in 2021. 

Salah is also the league's top scorer with 22 goals followed by Son and Ronaldo who have 17 goals each in second place. 

The Liverpool forward will receive his award at the Footballer of the Year dinner in London on May 5. 

He previously won the award in the 2017/2018 season and is only the ninth player to earn the award more than once. 

The only player who has won the award more than twice is Arsenal’s legend Thierry Henry who won the prize on three occasions.
