Former Harambee Stars midfielder McDonald Mariga is back in contention for the Kibra Parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket.
Mariga lost his previous attempt to win the Kibra seat after losing to Imran Okoth in the 2019 by-election.
Imran Okoth will, however, not be seeking re-election after failing to secure his nomination in the ODM party primaries. He lost to Mwalimu Peter Orero.

Peter Orero was Mariga’s High School teacher at Kamukunji High School in Nairobi.
Orero has contributed greatly to naturing young talent having served as the chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA).
Some of the players he has groomed include Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga, Mariga’s brother Victor Wanyama and Dennis Oliech among others.
Orero who has been a school head at various institutions used to delegate coaching duties to his assistants.
However, he was always at the touchline to ensure everything runs smoothly and push his players to do well.
Mariga during his active football days became the first Kenyan footballer to lift the famous Champions League trophy while playing for the Italian Sere A champions, Inter Milan.
The 35-year-old ex Harambee Stars midfielder was also the first Kenyan to play in La Liga, the first Kenyan to play in Serie A and the first Kenyan to play in the Champions League.
