Struggling Burnley has appointed former Manchester City captain, Vincent Kompany, as their new manager.
In a statement on Tuesday, June 14, the Clarets stated that Kompany would take charge of the first team operations at Turf Moor in the coming season following the departure of Sean Dyche in April.
The English club, which was relegated to the Championship, expressed optimism at the appointment of Kompany as they hope to make a comeback to the top-tier league for the 2023-2024 season.

Burnley defended the appointment of the former city man stating that Kompany had proven to be a top-class manager following his managerial stint in Belgium.
"The 36-year-old joins after departing the Belgian First Division’s R.S.C Anderlecht where he spent three years. He joined Anderlecht in 2019 as player-manager before taking on the role full-time in August 2020.
"During his first full season as manager, Kompany led the club to a fourth-place finish overseeing a youthful squad with the youngest average age in the league. Last season Kompany led Anderlecht to third place, European qualification and the Belgian Cup Final," read the statement in part.
On his part, the former skipper who won four premier titles exuded confidence in the club's project, promising to restore Burnley's former glory.
“Burnley Football Club is a truly historic English side and it is an honour to be appointed first-team manager. I’m excited about the challenge ahead.
"I have been impressed by the Board’s vision for the club which aligns with my own and I look forward to playing my part as we enter an important season. I’m looking forward to getting to work with the players and creating a positive, winning team for our fans when we return to Turf Moor," he stated.
Kompany is set to discuss potential signings with the club's board following the official opening of the summer transfer window.
Burnley was relegated to the championship after finishing 18th with 35 points.
Their dismal performance saw their long-term manager, Dyche part ways with the club with the appointment of Mike Jackson on an interim basis for a month.
