Al Bayt Stadium will host the opening match of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

Its name was derived from bayt al sha'ar, tents historically used by the nomadic people in Qatar and the Gulf region.

The idea behind the stadium design was thus drawn from the nomad culture.

Nomads in Qatar have been using tents for centuries to shield themselves from the desert heat. In the form of a tent structure the ultra, modern football stadium has a capacity of 60,000.

The tent-like structure has a retractable roof system that complements the stadium's cooling technologies to help maintain a comfortable temperature inside without using any extra power.

Similar to other stadiums that will host the World Cup, the Al Bayt will have half of its seats removed and donated to developing nations across the world.

Outside the stadium is a park area which is said to be equivalent to over 30 football pitches.

It is expected that after the end of the World Cup the upper section of the stadium will be converted into a 5-star hotel.

Other features that will be added after the end of the tournament will be a shopping centre, food court, gym and multipurpose hall.
