Mane Beats Salah to Win African Player of the Year Award

Sadio Mane was crowned the African men's player of the year for the second consecutive year after an impressive season with Senegal and Liverpool.

In a ceremony held in Rabat, Morocco, Mane beat compatriot Edouard Mendy and former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.

Mane, now a Bayern Munich player helped his nation win the African Cup of Nations and secure a ticket to the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup. 

He also led Liverpool to win FA and Carabao cups and runners-up in the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Nigerian forward Asisat Oshoala bagged the Women African Player of the year.

The Nigerian forward broke the record for winning the most African women's awards after claiming her fifth crown.

Senegalese coach Aliou Cisse was crowned the Men's coach of the year award after he led Senegal to their first AFCON title.

Another Senegalese who received an award was Pape Ousmane Sakho. Sakho’s overhead goal for Tanzania-based club Simba SC against ASEC Mimosas was named as the Goal of the Year.

As a country, Senegal was named the Men's National Team of the Year for lifting their first African Cup of Nations.

Despite Al Ahly Cairo losing the CAF Champions League final their captain Mohamed El Shennawy was feted with the Men’s Interclub Player of the Year.

South African side Mamelodi Sundowns women's team received the Women’s Club of the year award after lifting the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League.
