
Manchester United Stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Maguire are the most abused players in the English Premier League according to a Twitter analysis report released on Tuesday, August 8, 2022.
Ofcom, a United Kingdom based firm analyzed 2.3 million tweets in the first half of the 2021/2022 season and discovered over 60,000 abuse posts directed to several English Premier League stars, with the majority of them being from Manchester United.
Half of the abusive posts were directed to 8 Red Devils stars, with Maguire and Ronaldo being affected the most.

Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Bruno Fernandes were the other Manchester United players that received the most abuse on Twitter.
Kevin Bakhurst, the Ofcom group director for online content stated that curbing social media abuse requires a team effort.
"Online abuse has no place in sport, nor in wider society, and tackling it requires a team effort. Social media firms needn't wait for new laws to make their sites and apps safer for users.

“When we become the regulator for online safety, tech companies will have to be really open about the steps they're taking to protect users," he was quoted by BBC Sport.
According to the report, the number of abusive posts were more on two occasions last season. The first one was when Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United from Juventus in August 2021 and when Maguire tweeted an apology after their 2-0 defeat at home in the hands of their arch-rivals Manchester City.
Crystal Palace's James McArthur and Newcastle's Ciaran Clark are the other EPL players who received more abusive posts. The latter was insulted on Twitter after his nasty challenge on Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka in October last year.
On the other hand 78% of the abusive posts directed at Clark came in November when he was red carded in a match against Norwich.
