"We've always wanted to move to the USA for training. So for me, it's not a difficult move," Obiri told CNN.
This will be the first time in her long career that she will be based outside Kenya.
The legendary athlete hopes to familiarize herself with the new environment as soon as possible adding that it would take her two weeks to acclimatize.
In many instances, distance runners make the move from track to road racing as they approach the end of their careers.
Obiri made her name in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters over the past five years.
For her debut, she promised to run without any pressure as she hopes for a good finish.
The two-time world champion revealed that her seven-year-old daughter is looking forward to staying in the US.
"She's going to be so excited to go outside the country. She actually watches most of my races and is always happy when I win races.
"She actually calls me and says: 'Mom, do your best and be number one.' She always wants me to be number one," Obiri added.
The New York Marathon, which has the highest-paying prize money, is scheduled to take place on November 6, 2022.
