
Barcelona great Samuel Eto’o will remain in charge of Cameroonian football for three more years after the General Assembly agreed to extend his mandate as the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) president.
Eto’o who was expected to lead FECAFOOT until 2025 will now be at the helm until 2028 after receiving the green light to stay on at a meeting held on Saturday, August 27, in Douala.
Speaking during the meeting, Eto’o urged his compatriots to work together and restore five-time AFCON winners Cameroon as an African football superpower.

“We have made a commitment to restore all its greatness to Cameroonian football, our dream is a reality that is built on a daily basis.
“Let's unite our forces, silence our selfishness, look together in the same direction, Let's stop the sterile wars, the useless conflicts, the inopportune fights.
“Together, my dear brothers, let's make Cameroon football great again. Let's give Cameroonian football all its greatness,” Eto’o told FECAFOOT.
Eto’o became FECAFOOT’s president in December last year and has helped revive the country's fortunes.

Under his leadership, the Indomitable Lions return to the World Cup stage having missed the previous edition at Russia 2018. They stunned Algeria to qualify for the 2022 showpiece scheduled for November 20 to December 18 in Qatar.
He also helped the West African nation host a successful African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament earlier this year.
Eto’o made his debut for Cameroon at the age of 16 and is regarded as the most successful player in the country’s history.
He is one of the Indomitable Lions' all-time greats having won two AFCON titles and an Olympics gold medal. He is also AFCON's all-time top scorer with 18 goals.
The 41-year-old has played for a number of top European clubs including FC Barcelona, Chelsea, Everton, Sampdoria and Inter Milan. He also had short stints at Real Madrid, Leganes and Mallorca.
