Arsenal wonderkid Ethan Nwaneri became the youngest player in the history of the English Premier League to feature in a match on Sunday, September 18, 2022.

The 15-year- old school kid made an appearance as a substitute in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Brentford replacing Portuguese international Fabio Viera who had a full debut to remember.

Arsenal took to social media to break the news describing it as a special moment for the North London-based side.

“A special moment for one of our own. Ethan Nwaneri becomes the youngest player in @PremierLeague history!” read a statement from the club.

Arsenal opened the scoring in the 17th minute through William Saliba who headed in a lovely header from Bukayo Saka’s corner.

Gabriel Jesus added the second in the 28th when he jumped higher than the Brentford defenders and headed in a sublime cross from Switzerland international Granit Xhaka.

Viera sealed the win for Mikel Arteta’s coached side with a powerful shot that left Brentford’s goalkeeper David Raya diving aimlessly four minutes into the start of the second half.

The win by Arsenal was Brentford’s heaviest defeat in the English top flight since 1947 when they were walloped by a similar margin by Blackburn Rovers.

The victory sent Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League log with 18 points, one ahead of arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspurs and Manchester City who picked up convincing wins on Saturday.

Arsenal and Tottenham will battle it out for the North London bragging rights after the international break. The two foes will play each other on Saturday, October 1 at 1430hrs East African Time.
