England Records Highest Number of Football Arrests in 8 Yrs

The 2021/2022 season has been reported to have the highest number of football-related arrests in eight years, according to a report by United Kingdom's Homme Office. 

A total of 2,198 football-related arrests were recorded making it the highest number since the 2013/2014 season.

The incidents reported were at more than half of the total matches played.  In regard to pitch invasions by fans, a total of 441 invasions were reported last season. 

516 new banning orders were issued to fans with Milwall, Leicester and Everton topping with 33, 28 and 26 new banning orders respectively. 

In 729 matches where pyrotechnics incidents were reported, throwing of missiles was at 561 and public order incidents involving youth fans totalled 444. 

Last season saw a fan during the Sheffield, Nottingham Forest playoff match jailed after running onto a pitch and headbutting Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp. 

Another incident happened at the Etihad Stadium when a Manchester City fan ran onto the pitch and made fun of Aston Villa keeper Robin Olsen.

The fan was banned for four years.
