The Ethiopian duo of Aychew Dessie and Mehasha Tadesse settled for second and third place positions respectively. Dessie and Tadesse both finished the road race in 2:01.19.

Another Kenyan representative in the race Daniel Kipchumba clocked 2:07.46 to come a distant fifth behind Ethiopia's Kebede Adane Gebre.

Leonard Langat, who was among the race favorites, dropped out of the race at the 15km mark citing health related problems.

In the women’s category, Kenya’s Margaret Agai clinched the title ahead of Ayanta Kumela and Bone Cheluke.

The 2017 Seoul Marathon winner outpaced Kumela in the final stages of the race to reach the tape in a time of 2:24.04. Kumela, who smashed the course record last year clocked 2:24.35.

October 2 was a good day for Kenyan road race runners since majority of them shone at different competitions across the globe.
