Kenya Sails to the Semifinals of Cricket World Cup Qualifiers

Kenyan teenagers have qualified for the semifinal of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Under 19 Africa Division two World Cup qualifiers that is underway in Abuja, Nigeria.

The youngsters advanced to the next round after their group opponents Ghana and Mozambique failed to grace the tournament due to logistical challenges.

According to the ICC, the group match pitting Kenya against Mozambique was abandoned after the latter failed to show up.

Kenya was scheduled to square it out with Mozambique on Wednesday, October 5 at 1200hrs East African Time.

Also, the other group match between Ghana and Malawi did not take place due to a similar reason.

In the opening group match, Kenya whitewashed minnows Malawi by 286 runs.

Kenya will either face hosts Nigeria or Sierra Leone in the semifinals on Friday, October 7.

Nigeria won all their group matches beating Botswana, Rwanda and Sierra Leone by 10, 10, and 6 wickets respectively.

Sierra Leone on the other hand overcame Rwanda by 6 wickets before winning the match against Botswana by 8 wickets.

Top three teams from the tournament will battle Namibia, Uganda and Tanzania in the division one qualifiers which will be held in 2023.

The Under 19 World Cup is slated to take place in 2024 but the host is yet to be confirmed by the organizers.
