
President William Ruto reorganised the government in his Executive Order No 1 of 2022.
In the changes, he renamed the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Arts.
The docket will also have two state departments as from the previous three; State Department for Youth Affairs and State Department for Sports and Arts.

The State Department for Sports and Arts will have Sports Kenya, Kenya Anti-Doping Agency Sports, Kenya Anti-Doping Agency Sports Kenya, Kenya Academy of Sports, Registrar of Sports, Kenya Film Classification Board and Kenya Film Commission.
Other institutions include the Kenya Copyright Board, Kenya National Library Services Board, Kenya Cultural Centre and Kenya National Theatre.
The functions given to the State Department of Sports and Arts include developing, managing, and implementing the Sports Policy.
It will also be responsible for the promotion and coordination of sports implementation of the World Anti-Doping Code and convention against doping.
The training and regulation of sports will further be undertaken in the same department, which will as well ensuring the expansion of the sports industry to support livelihoods.
Other function includes the development and management of sports facilities with the establishment and management of sports academies to nurture talent.
President Ruto recently named former Budalangi Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba as the new Youth Sports and Arts Cabinet Secretary and will take up the role once vetted by the National Assembly.
