Gideon Nyale Munga, Police FC chairperson played an instrumental role to help the club get promoted to the Kenya Premier League (KPL) in 2021.

Munga, who is among the 10 shortlisted candidates seeking to replace former Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) boss George Kinoti, is credited for coming up with a blueprint for Police FC’s recent successes.

The senior assistant inspector general of the National Police Service (NPS) came up with a strategy that ensured the club prioritizes the welfare of its players.

According to Nyale, he is the one who helped Police FC get sponsors when other KPL clubs were struggling to partner with commercial stakeholders.

"Our first priority was to work on the welfare of the players so I had to contact some friends to come and support us.

"We managed to get a few sponsors (gaming firm Betika and Nutrinut) on board who complimented what we got from the National Police Service who have been very supportive,” he told Nation.

On Tuesday, October 11, 2022, Police FC praised the officer who hails from Kilifi County for changing the system at the club.

“The transformation, professionalism and accountability behind this club was started and is being led by Mr Nyale Munga, Chairman Kenya Police FC,” read a statement from the club.

The law enforcement side registered a ninth-place finish in the KPL last season with 47 points, 16 less than league winners Tusker FC.

However, a confident Munga disclosed that their objective in the upcoming 2022/2023 season is to clinch the title.

In preparation for the delayed season, Kenya Police have secured a number of elite signings including Harambee Stars midfielder Patilah Omoto, Reagan Otieno and Baraka Badi.

Besides enhancing their squad with new signings, Kenya Police also pitched their pre-season training camp in Rwanda.

The Sammy “Pamzo” Omollo coached-side has wished Munga success as he attends the DCI interview.

“On Tuesday 11th October 2022 starting from 11.00am, our chairman will be attending an interview for the post of the next Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI). Join us in wishing him well. Sir you’re absolutely up to the task,” ended a tweet from Police FC.

Some of the other candidates that have been shortlisted for the post include Paul Jimmie Ndambuki, Simon Mwangi Wanderi, Esther Chepkosgei Seroney and Jonyo Michael Wiso.
