Karim Benzema’s right hand became a hotly debated topic during the 2022 Ballon d’Or ceremony held in Paris, France on October 17, 2022.
Most football fans, who are used to seeing Benzema wearing a bandage, were shocked to discover that the French striker had a broken finger.
The story behind the iconic bandage that Real Madrid talisman has been wearing for over three years now is an interesting one.

It is reported that Karim injured one of his fingers during Real Madrid’s La Liga clash against Real Betis in January 2019.
After injuring his little finger, the prolific striker was advised by the Los Blancos medical practitioner’s to undergo a surgery but he declined since the club was struggling at that time.
Benzema sacrificed his well-being to help Madrid who badly netted a striker then - the surgery would have ruled him out for over two months.
After Karim started wrapping a bandage on his hands, he immediately enjoyed fine form, netting 6 goals in four matches.
In 2021, the striker who is in contention to represent France at the upcoming world cup revealed that he went for an operation but had a setback and therefore he did not have the time to undergo the knife again.
There have been rumors that Benzema does not want to undergo an operation for superstition reasons.
In the aftermath of the Ballon d’Or event, Adidas honored the former Olympic Lyon star for bagging his maiden trophy by releasing a short film titled “Hand of Gold” with an aim of narrating the touching story of a man who overcame struggles to succeed.
In the film, the bandage that Benzema wears is seen turning from white to golden color.
