Victor Wanyama ended his CF Montreal career with a 3-1 loss to defending champions New York City FC in the Major League Soccer semifinals on October 23, 2022.

New York City skipper Maxi Moralez opened the scoring for his side within just 6 minutes from the start of the match.

Heber Araujo extended New York City’s lead moments before half time. The situation for Wanyama’s club got worse in the 61st minute when they conceded a penalty which was accurately taken by Talles Magno.

Although Djordje Mihailovic pulled one back for the hosts, it was not enough to bring them back in the game.

Wanyama had announced earlier this month that he is set to part ways with CF Montreal at the end of the season after a two-year spell.

“Honestly, I think that this question has been asked for a long time and the truth is at the end of the season I will leave.

“I had great years here, I enjoyed being part of the team, it's been great,” he stated then.

Montreal requested the father of one to extend his contract, but he declined the offer. At the club, Wanyama was pocketing Ksh 289.9 million annually.

The former Harambee Stars midfielder had also revealed that winning the MLS Cup was his dream since he had achieved almost everything in football.

“I think I have done it all. Maybe the only thing  that I haven’t done is winning a trophy with the national team. But the rest I think I have done.

“If I have to say that, winning the play offs, you know winning the MLS Cup,” he disclosed.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is yet to announce his next move.

Whether he will return to Kenya or sign for another overseas club, it remains unknown.
