Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane will be awarded the Freedom of the City of London award at a special ceremony in January 2023.

England's captain will receive the award in recognition of his outstanding achievement in sports.

The announcement was made on November 3, ahead of the awaited FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“Kane – who is widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, and who plays for north London club Tottenham Hotspur - has been nominated for the Freedom by the City of London Corporation’s Policy Chairman, Chris Hayward, and its Deputy Policy Chairman, Keith Bottomley,’ part of the statement read.

The 29-year-old striker began his football journey in 2009 and was promoted to the senior team at the age of 16.

Over the last decade, Kane has won major awards and accolades, including PFA Young Player of the Year, three Premier League Golden Boots, the World Cup Golden Boot (2018), and Premier League Playmaker of the Season.

In 2019 he was awarded Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to football.

In September 2022, he made history after finding the back of the net on 51 different occasions for England, making him only the second player to score 51 goals for his nation.

Kane is three goals short of being England's greatest-ever goal scorer.

On his part, Harry Kane expressed his joy at being awarded, terming it a proud moment for himself and his family.

“It is a real honour to be recognised by the city I grew up in and love, and I am looking forward to meeting those who nominated me at the award ceremony," Kane stated.

The Museum of London will host a free display of Harry Kane that opens until December 4.
