African nations are yet to register a goal or a win at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 after Cameroon was beaten by Switzerland.

Switzerland walked away with a narrow 1-0 victory over the Lions of Teranga, thanks to a goal from Breel Embolo.

Embolo scored against the country of his birth three minutes into the second half but refused to celebrate the goal.

The Group G match saw the African side squander their goal-scoring chances with the Swiss capitalizing on theirs to escape with a win.

Embolo left his hometown Yaounde, Cameroon's capital when he was just five years old and moved to France with his mother.

They relocated and settled in Switzerland a year later but he had to wait until 2014 before being granted citizenship. However, his father still leaves in Cameroon.

The AC Monaco forward made his senior international debut in March 2015 and has over time established himself as the country's forward.

Embolo's winner in the match against Cameroon was assisted by former Liverpool and Bayern Munich forward Xherdan Shaqiri.

Shaqiri has been directly involved in half of Switzerland’s 24 goals across their last four appearances at major tournaments.

The 31-year-old attacking midfielder has scored eight and assisted four goals.

Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer was named the Player of the Match after finishing the game with a clean sheet denying Cameroon a goal.
