FIFA lifted its suspension of Kenya from international football on November 25, following talks with Sports CS Ababu Namwamba.

Sports Cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba on November 29, disclosed that the decision to lift the suspension was made after he met FIFA officials.

Namwamba revealed that he gave the world football governing body two key points the ministry will work on.

“I did impress upon FIFA that if indeed they are interested in the development of football in Kenya, it was in the interest of that agenda for the suspension to be lifted.

“I struck a deal with FIFA that yes, the suspension will be lifted but they must not close their eyes to the integrity around football and if we are going to develop football then transparency, accountability and integrity must be integral in that mission,” Namwamba disclosed.

The CS clarified what the two deals meant for Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nick Mwendwa, who is currently away from office awaiting clearance of his court case.

Namwamba noted that if Mwendwa fails to be cleared by the courts, it would be up to the leadership of FKF to decide how they move forward.

The Sports CS also sent a message to the FKF that football activities in the country will be hampered if it does not work with transparency, accountability and integrity.

CS Namwamba added that he has a vision of Harambee Stars in the World Cup come 2030.

He disclosed while in Qatar, he met with Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga and shared his vision with him.
