Former 800m runner Pamela Jelimo is set to receive a 2012 London Olympic Games bronze medal on Wednesday, December 6, 2022, following the disqualification of Russian athlete Mariya Savinova.

Savinova was disqualified by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after being found guilty of engaging in doping malpractices.

Jelimo clocked 1:57.59 to finish fourth behind Savinova, South Africa’s Caster Semenya and Ekaterina Poistogova of Russia in the hotly contested race.

In 2017, Poistogova was slapped with a two-year suspension for doping but her London Olympic results were not altered.

After Savinova’s disqualification, the gold medal was awarded to Semenya while Poistogova was moved up to a silver medal.

Pamela entered into history books at the 2008 edition of the Games when she became the first Kenyan woman to bag an Olympic medal.

However, after gracing the Beijing and London Olympic Games, she went under the radar, not to appear again at global events.

The award ceremony will be held at the Nairobi National Museum and it will be presided over by the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) President Paul Tergat and Kipchoge Keino.

Keino, who is a two-time Olympic champion, is an honorary member of the IOC.

Jelimo is not the only one who will be fated during the ceremony as former 800m world champion Janet Jepkosgei is also expected to receive a diploma certificate for registering a sixth-place position in the same race.

Hellen Obiri, who switched to road races this year will also be awarded with a diploma certificate for finishing eighth in London in the 5,000m race.

Four runners, who competed in the above discipline were disqualified for doping.
