The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has scheduled one of the Premier League fixtures to be part of the Jamhuri Day celebration.

According to the letter dated December 8, the Ministry of Sports requested the federation to organise a football match as part of the Jamhuri Day National Celebrations, scheduled for December 12, 2022.

“The federation has reached a decision to present FKF PL Match No 33 Sofapaka vs AFC Leopards to be part of the said National Celebrations, kick-off 3 pm," part of the letter read.

It was noted that the Ababu Namwamba ministry will cater for all the expenses for the fixture organization.

The FKF clarified that the match will be played as per Article 2.5.4 of the Rules and Regulations Governing Kenyan Football (2019).

The winner of the match will be awarded three points; in case of a draw, one point will be accorded to each team.

However, in case of a draw, the match will head into penalties which shall not count as part of the league match results.

“The Federation has scheduled a planning meeting for the match on December 9, 2022, at FKF Offices beginning 11 am between FKF, Ministry of Sports and the clubs' representatives,” the letter read.

Other FKF Premier League fixtures will continue as planned despite the recent ruling by the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) on the nullification of the 2021/2022 season.

Tusker FC is the current league leader with nine points, followed by Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz at second and third with six points each.
