Pele’s daughter Kelly Nascimento disclosed on Wednesday night, December 21, 2022, that her family was advised to postpone their Christmas celebrations because their father’s condition had worsened.

The Brazilian legend was admitted to a Sao Paulo-based hospital on Tuesday, November 29, for cancer treatment.

Sao Paulo-based hospital reported that Pele's cancer status had significantly advanced, forcing his family to spend the Christmas eve at the health facility.

“Instagram family, our Christmas at home has been suspended. We decided with the doctors that, for various reasons, it would be better for us to stay here with all the care that this new family at Einstein gives us!

“We, as always, thank you for all the love you show us here in Brazil as well as around the world!

“Your love for him and your stories and prayers are a huge comfort because we know we are not alone,” read part of her statement.

Kelly stated that they had consultations with the physicians and decided it was best to stay at the facility.

She added that the family would give an update in the coming days.

“We are going to turn this room into a Sambodromo (just kidding), and we will make caipirinhas (not kidding!).

“We wish everyone who celebrates a Christmas that is filled with family, full of children, some fighting, and tons of love and health! We will give you an update next week.” ended Kelly.

It was initially reported that the three-time FIFA World Cup winner was under palliative care.

The hospital Israelita Albert Einstein also issued a statement stating that Pele’s cancer is in an advanced stage and greater care is needed.

They added that he has experienced cardiac and renal dysfunctions.
