Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola stated that Erling Haaland's condition is improving despite a foot injury he suffered in October 2022.

While addressing the media on Tuesday, December 27, Pep confirmed that the Norwegian striker would feature in the Leeds clash at Elland Road on Wednesday, December 28.

Haaland hurt the ligament in his foot during City’s Champions League group stage game which forced him out for a couple of games before the World Cup break.

“I think he will be ready. Day by day he’s getting better. As much, as he can train, he will get his condition. The injury is completely different from last season.

“It was a knock on his foot in Dortmund when we played Champions League. The doctor noted that he (Haaland) damaged the ligament in his feet which is so painful and not easy to recover from. That’s why he struggled,” Pep stated.

However, Haaland was back in action against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Thursday, December 22, scoring the opening goal in City’s 3-2 win.

“Now it’s a question of time. Of course, we need him. And yes, he was good (against Liverpool). On Thursday, he finished good,” Pep added.

The match between City and Leeds is special to Haaland as his father Alfie played for Leeds before joining the Blue side of Manchester.

Haaland was also coached by Leeds boss Jesse Marsch during his time at RB Salzburg.

Pep noted that it was his wish that Haaland would not be affected by his past affiliation with the Leeds boss.
