Ababu Namwamba Awards Ksh30,000 to Under 19s Local Team

Bunyala North Zone is the Women's Champion for the Isambo Women's Football Cup Finals.

The Bunyala North Zone Women's football team was the ultimate victor of Season 9 of the Isambo Women's Football Cup after beating Bunyala South Zone,1-0.

Sports CS Ababu Namwamba, who is the patron of the Cup final, brought together four teams to compete for the ultimate prize of Ksh30,000.

Bunyala North Zone was crowned as winners of the annual Isambo Cultural festivals, with the 1st Runners Up walking away with Ksh20,000.

The tournament was held at Mudembi Playing Grounds in Budalangi, Busia County.

In his speech, the CS assured the residents of the government's support to help spot and nurture talents from the grassroots.

"The government is ready and committed to supporting such raw talents, to help them in their journey to stardom.

"Our women footballers have in the past shown their ability to compete with the best in Africa and the world. As such, my ministry will work hand in glove with all sports stakeholders to ensure that these raw talents are supported to realise their full potential," the CS added.

The CS also noted that the government had initiated a programme to identify and nurture talent in sports and arts.

Describing the plan as a bottom-up approach, Namwamba added that it is the best way of scouting talent that would represent Kenya in various fields.
