Spain's head coach Luis Enrique has announced his squad for Euro 2020, with the biggest news being that captain Sergio Ramos has been left out, meaning that no Real Madrid player made the cut of the national team squad.
The Spain coach has selected 24 players for the major tournament, despite being allowed 26, but injury has prevented the influential centre-back from being part of the La Roja setup.
The 35 year old Real Madrid skipper has endured an injury-plagued campaign and has started just 15 La Liga matches this season.
His omission on the squad is, however, a big surprise, considering that he has made 180 appearances for the Spain national team, winning one World Cup and two European Championship titles.
It is the first time Ramos has not been named in a Spain squad for a major tournament since Euro 2004.
Ramos’ omission means this is the first time that Spain will travel to a major tournament without a Real Madrid player in their squad.
Wolves winger Adama Traore has been included in the squad and is set to make his first debut at an international tournament.
David de Gea also retains his place despite recently losing his spot in the Manchester United starting XI to Dean Henderson.
Spain has been drawn in the pool E of the Euro 2020 games and will be expected to face Sweden ,Poland and Slovakia as from June 14.
