Stephen Kaziimba, the Archbishop of Uganda, is one of the most ardent football fans in Africa.
Kaziimba took to social media to congratulate the Uganda National men’s team, popularly known as the Cranes, for picking up a vital win against heavyweights Senegal on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at the African Nations Championships (CHAN).
Uganda narrowly beat the Lions of Teranga 1-0 at the tournament which is underway in Algeria.

After the victory, Archbishop Kaziimba stated that his nation has the potential to play at the FIFA World Cup.
“I am proud of our Uganda Cranes and I pray for them. Our boys have the capacity to make it to the World Cup. I believe, they can make it,” part of his statement read.
Uganda has a high chance of advancing to the next round. They currently top their Group with four points after two matches.
The group, which is arguably the pool of death, also has giants Ivory Coast and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Uganda is expected to play its final group match against Ivory Coast on Sunday, January 22.
CHAN is not the only sporting event that the Archbishop is keenly following. He also follows the English Premier League and he is a die-hard supporter of League leaders Arsenal.
In the wake of Arsenal’s crucial 2-0 win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Archbishop Kaziimba revealed some life lessons he has learned from the mercurial winger.
“I always make reference to Bukayo Saka whenever I am talking about strategic positioning. Saka knows how to position himself well during the game and values teamwork.
“I learned strategic positioning and teamwork from him. I think he is equally prayerful,” ended Kaziimba.
